Beyond Bethlehem

‘Twas on a night like this when the glory of the Lord
Came to the little town of Bethlehem.
‘Twas the coming of the King, The Babe worth worshipping,
The centre of the angels praise.
But His mother knew that day
That was not where He would stay.
No, her son would choose to go beyond.

He chose to go beyond Bethlehem for me
All the way to the cross of Calvary.
He bled and He died so that I’d be reconciled.
Oh, He chose to go beyond Bethlehem for me.

‘Twas on a night like this to the Father Jesus prayed,
In the garden of Gethsemane
With sweat like drops of blood and Satan’s tempting flood.
“Father, take this cup away from me.”
But His Father knew that day, that was not where he would stay.
No, His son would choose to go beyond.

He chose to go beyond Gethsemane for me
All the way to the cross of Calvary.
He bled and he died, so that I’d be reconciled.
Oh, He went beyond Gethsemane for me.

He could have stayed in heaven. He didn’t have to come.
But redemption’s work would never have been done
He chose to go beyond heaven for me
All the way to the cross of Calvary.
He bled and he died so that I’d be reconciled.
Oh he chose to go beyond heaven for you and for me.
He chose to go beyond to Calvary
The Lamb was crucified, so that we’d be reconciled
Oh, he chose to go beyond heaven; He chose to go beyond Bethlehem; He went beyond Gethsemane.
He chose to go beyond for you and me.
